Nintendo is said to have removed a number of DSiWare titles from the Nintendo 3DS eShop, without providing any warning to fans that the games will disappear.
The removals were first spotted by a Twitter user Embed a Tweet, Which reported that “all DSiWare games released before mid-May 2011 have been deactivated.” Includes games that you can no longer purchase Shantai: A risky revengeAnd the Asphalt 4: Elite RacingAnd the Aura-Aura ClimberAnd the Dr.. Mario ExpressAnd the MR. DRILLER: Dig till you dropAnd many more.
At the time of writing, removals appear to be hitting North America hard; Deleted Games It reports that most books removed in that region are still available for purchase in Europe.
Displaying any of the affected games in the eShop will send players a message that “This program is not currently available.” Given the fact that Nintendo has yet to release any statement regarding the disappeared games, this is likely a temporary bug that will be resolved – we’ll make sure to update this story with more information when we have it.
In the meantime, it probably won’t hurt to download any DSiWare games from the 3DS online store while you still can, just in case. This digital age is a scary age!
