Overall, you’d expect the earphones to go at Your ear canal. Because, you know, that’s what headphones do. But today, Bose announces its latest truly wireless earbuds – the Bose Sport Open Earbuds – and the company claims it doesn’t insert, overwhelm, or attach to your ears at all.
Well, where the hell do they go?
According to Boz Press releaseBose Sport Open Earbuds are available above Channel your ear thanks to the oddly shaped hook attachment. (Though, if you look at the image below Sort It seems to be “covering” a small portion of the ear canal …) If you read sheet music, it kinda sounds Bass clef. You should be able to hear everything you hear at whatever volume you want, but without others being listening. Bose says it’s only supposed to rotate the hook on the outer edge of your ear, and that it provides sound “virtually no contact with the skin” and without pressure or vibrations. Bose claims that a small dual-pole transducer in every enclosure delivers clear sound while canceling other noise, while the microphones are able to isolate your voice from noise and other winds.
In terms of specifications, the earbuds are 48mm wide and 55mm high – so these earbuds appear to be relatively large. The Jabra Elite Active 75tFor example, it is 19.4 mm wide and 16.2 mm high. Bose also says the earbuds “only weigh 14 grams per bud.” Well, but AirPods Pro are 5.4 grams per bud and Jabra Elite Active 75t is 5.5 grams. For connectivity, there is a “cored antenna” and Bluetooth 5.1. The earbuds also have an IPX4 rating and an estimated 8 hours of battery life.
As the name suggests, these earbuds are intended for outdoor enthusiasts – specifically runners, hikers, and cyclists who want to listen to music while keeping your ears for ambient noises, such as traffic or a chatter partner. There are bone conduction headphones that pledge to do the same, but they are generally better for the hard of hearing or less rigorous activity. If you’ve used a pair before, the sound quality isn’t as good as regular earbuds, and depending on the model, they sometimes slip off your head while you’re running.
We’ve seen this type of Bose open sound technology before – specifically at Bose tires Sunglasses that double as a pair of headphones. When I tested these, they surprisingly made the promise to “listen to your music but other people can’t hear it”. However, we will have to test these earbuds to see if they give you a similar experience and whether the heavy weight and ear hook are comfortable enough for exercise.
The Bose Sport Open Earbuds will sell for $ 200 and come in Triple Black, which I believe is Bose’s term for “very black.” You can pre-order online today at BestBuy or Bose site, And shipping / availability is expected sometime in the middle of this month.
